How does it work?
Write every day based on the prompt you receive by email each morning (midnight if you live in Europe). A typical prompt will involve a poem or short essay (or parts of longer pieces). This means that throughout the month you will discover new poets and writers. The email will also include a writing prompt based on the piece provided.
How much time do I need?
There is no upper limit to the time you should dedicate to your writing daily, but I recommend a minimum of 20 minutes for this challenge. When sending longer pieces keep in mind that other participants may not have enough time to read the whole thing.
What is the group for?
When you’re done with your first draft (it doesn’t need to be perfect or edited) send it to the group by clicking ‘reply all.’ The best part of the workshop is that you will receive the other participants’ writing to the same prompt … and you’re encouraged to send feedback! I will send some guidance on writing feedback, but it will be a simple and rewarding part of the workshop, I promise you. Make it a rule to read and respond to a few people whenever you have a few minutes. It’s better than catching up on news! Naturally, I will participate in this part of the workshop too.
The one rule is that you have 24 hours to respond to the prompt and reply to the email. If you miss that day, move on the next one. You won’t be judged or removed from the workshop. Life happens and we all know that the day can slip by.
What others have said …
I completed a writing challenge in November 2024 with Miriam. I had not written poetry in so many years that I actually believed I no longer could. With her thoughtful and inspiring prompts, words of gentle motivation and thoughtful feedback, Miriam led us through a variety of poetry styles and got me writing poetry again! I am so happy that I completed this weekend writing challenge with her, and I really enjoyed getting the creative juices flowing again after such a long time! Highly recommend working with her and look forward to writing with her again in the future!

MIRIAM CALLEJA is my weekend writing instructor and poetry teacher. She is a genius at creating writing communities where people feel safe to be vulnerable and share their writing. This is the greatest joy in writing. To be able to share your efforts with your fellow writers is a source of supreme appreciation and support. Experiencing Miriam’s classes will inspire you and make you want to continue writing.

Having joined Miriams refreshing workshops and groups several times, has served as an enormous milestone in my writing journey, and supported me to develop my confidence and my penned voice. They are always like a prolific oasis, in which my words can grow, whilst Miriam provides all the conditions needed to thrive. I am forever grateful.

How much does it cost?
The pricing of this workshop is based on a sliding scale model that recognizes that money can be a barrier to access. This is not the same as a discount. If you are able to pay more than the value of the course, you will be helping another writer with lower financial means to gain access to the course. If you are committed to putting in the work but cannot justify the lower end of the scale on your current budget, please ask for a scholarship, no questions asked.
$60 - friend
$75 - companion
$100 - supporter (this represents the “real” value of the course)
$120 - pay-it-forward partner
$150 or more - pay-it-forward patron
